Bloomsbury district of London
As you may already know, we stay quiet often in London because we love the city so much and it is easy to go there by flight from our hometown in Northern Germany. We stayed this time in the centre of Bloomsbury, a favoured district in London’s West End. The district is a fashionable residential area where prestigious cultural, intellectual and educational institutions are located. When we arrived, we discovered on signs at some house walls several well-known people who used to live here, e.g. Stephen Hawking or Virginia Woolf. The spirit of culture is in Bloomsbury perceptible, also because it is home of the famous British Museum, the largest museum in the United Kingdom.
The Academy Hotel London
At Gower Street, in the middle of Bloomsbury, The Academy Hotel is located in a grand Georgian townhouse with a history dating back 240 years. The Academy Hotel London is a 5 star hotel and includes 50 rooms/suites. Because of a renovation by YTL Hotels and Champalimaud Design in 2018, everything looks super new and very stylish. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection, a hotel organisation we know already from other wonderful hotels in Europe.
Warm welcoming at The Academy
When we arrived, the manager passed us around the hotel that we got a perfect overview. It was conspicuous that the whole team of the hotel was always super welcoming us and we at once felt like home. For example, the staff provided us best champagne and amazing chocolate by XXX. In addition, a personal written card was super nice to read, thanks so much. Because of all the great attention, we decided to stay the next hours in our suite to enjoy our time there instead of discovering the surroundings…
The suite, as well the other amazing-looking guest rooms, have been created by the award-winning Champalimaud Design and each element comes together to tell a story of the hotel. The Academy Hotel has different rooms that suit for everyone, from Townhouse Single to Bloomsbury Suite. We enjoyed staying in the elegant Bloomsbury Suite with all its specials like tea and Nespresso coffee station, bathrobe and slippers, aromatherapy associate toiletries and so on. The best, the complimentary minibar with all beverages you need. You see, who needs the great surrounding of London, when you can spend the whole day at a hotel room.
Proposals by The Academy
During the day, we went to the in-house library where you can relax by reading ancient and modern literature. Here, the Academy Book Club takes place and each month there are intimate meetings with coffee, cake and conversations about famous works. When you are not interested in literature, go and visit the Alchemy Bar on the ground floor. The location is super stylish and the cocktails more than special.
Because we had to leave quiet early in the morning, we were not able to join the breakfast. What a real pity! Nevertheless, we had our breakfast in our train to Stanford Airport. The chef of The Academy Hotel prepared us cappuccino, fresh orange juice, croissants and yoghurts for take away.
Thanks so much for all the little extra attentions, it was an honour to be your guest!
